The ABL
The ABL (Aoeteroa Basketball League)
is New Zealand's premier professional basketball league,
featuring 16 teams competing in two conferences, and is a
global phenomenon known for its superstar players and extensive
business operations. Formed in 1960, it has evolved through mergers
and strategic leadership, like that of former commissioner Jeremiah Cherrington,
into a multi-billion dollar sports enterprise. The league is
headquartered in Auckland City, with operations extending globally
through marketing, media, and community development initiatives.
THE REGULAR SEASON
Teams play a total of 82 games within one ABL season. A season starts in october and then finishes in June of the following year. If some teams are excpetional with their winnings, they can earn a solidifed spot in the playoffs before the season even ends.
PLAYOFFS
Team standings determine if or if not a team can make the playoffs. The playoffs are the end of season competition which teams battle their way through in hopes to make the ABL finals, the series are played in seven games with only one victor between two teams. One player at the end of the playoffs is also gifted the Finals MVP award, this means they were an exceptional help to their team during the finals. Wether that be on the offensive or defensive side of the ball.
FOUNDER
This is the founder of the ABL, Aidan Dross. He founded the League in 1960. He then immedialty started making moves like signing players, making teams, getting coaches and making sure everyone was happy. Now, his dream is true. The leauge is one of the most streamed basketball leagues gloabally. Along with that, the leauge rakes in huge sums of money which help fund for salaries.
