The history of F1 begins with the European Grand Prix championships of the 1920s and 1930s. Still, the modern Formula One World Championship officially began in 1946, followed by the World Championship of Drivers in 1950, with the first race held at the Silverstone Circuit. Road-car manufacturers like McLaren, Ferrari, Mercedes-Benz, and Maserati often manage the teams.
