How to Delete your Microsoft Word Macros

In the previous section, you saw how to add a button to the toolbar. You then assigned a Macro to this button. In this part, we'll see how to delete Macros. We'll start with deleting the one from the toolbar.

How to Delete a Macro from the Toolbar

Click on the button with your right mouse button
A rather long menu appears
Click on Customize right at the bottom
The following dialogue box appears:

The categories are Menu bar items (and macros). The File menu is highlighted. On the right, under Commands, are all the items you can put on the File menu.

Scroll down until you see Macros on the left hand side, under Categories. Click on the word Macros. Your dialogue box will now look something like the one below:

To get rid of your toolbar button, the idea is to drag it from the toolbar into the Customize box. So do this:

Click on the button with your left mouse button
Keep the left mouse button held down
Drag your mouse down to the dialogue box
Let go when the mouse pointer is over the Macros under Commands
Your button will disappear from the toolbar

Drag your buttom to the Commands area

When you let go of the left mouse button, the Macro toolbar button will be gone. However, the macro itself is still there. You haven't deleted your macro. To get the button back on the toolbar, do this.

From the menu bar, click on View
From the drop down menu click Toolbars
A long sub menu appears
Click Customize, right at the bottom
The Customize dialogue box appears once again
Scroll down like you did before and click on Macros in the Category section. Your macros appears under the Command section
To put your macro back on the toolbar, simply drag it up to the toolbar like you did before

Delete a Macro

But suppose you wanted to delete the macro altogether. How do you do that? To delete a macro, do the following:

Click on Tools from the menu bar
From the drop down menu, click Macro
From the sub menu that appears, click on Macros
The Macros dialogue box appears
Click on the Macro you want to get rid of
Click the Delete button, as in the image below:

Select a Macro and click Delete

You'll get a Message Box popping up asking if you're sure that you want to delete the macro. Click Yes to get rid of the macro altogether. You can select any Macro you like here, and then delete it. But be careful what you delete!
