Papamoa Surf Lifesaving Club
Welcome to Papamoa Surf Lifesaving Club. Our organisation are a group of dedicated athletes that help in and around the community for the publics benefit and safety. We first started patrolling in the early 1940s and prior to that were part of the Omanu/Papamoa Surf Club, which patrolled the entire stretch of populated beach.
But as the population of Papamoa increased, so did the demand for water safety and in 1990, with the assistance of Surf Lifesaving Bay Of Plenty, the Papamoa Surf Lifesaving Club was established.
In 1986, the Papamoa Lions began fundraising for a Rescue Base and with much community help, the building was completed in 1989.
The foundation member groups of the Trust were (and still are today) Papamoa Surf Life Saving Club, Papamoa Lions Club, Papamoa Guides and Papamoa Scouts.
Due to increasing membership and increasing expectations from the public to provide a wider and more diverse rescue based service, major extensions to the building were completed in 2001.
This dramaticaly increased the Clubs gear storage area, added another lounge and provided ladies and men's changing rooms / shower / toilet facilities.
In the next few years a totally new Surf Club base is set to be built with concepts already shown to the public. A large scale fundraising process is underway to fund the long overdue increase in size for the club. Which is the fastest growing in New Zealand.
