What is Junior Surf?
Junior Surf is about developing tomorrow’s lifeguards and opening up a whole new world to children. By encouraging fun and safe participation, it is an ideal way for children to develop and improve their surf lifesaving knowledge and skills not just for themselves, but perhaps one day possibly for others.
It is important for parents to encourage and often join in on the beach activities, this is even more important for the younger groups to boost their confidence
The typical Junior Surf session involves meeting at the club house at 10 o'clock, at which time, after announcments, the kids are seperated into their age groups and are taken for a warm up run, After this and stretches, the kids usually begin with beach games. Some, like stuck in the mud, are designed just for fun, whereas beach flags and relays/sprints, are focused more on learning skills that will be put to practice in the various carnivals that occur each season.
After the beach part of the session, the kids get changed into their togs and beanies and do various "races" with the assistance of parents which are usually used as buoys or markers for the kids to swim or boogie board around. After all activites are completed, a sausage sizzle is available at the clubhouse
