Brass instruments produce sound when a player blows into it. The vibrations of the players lips and air creates soundwaves. Brass instruments come in a variety of families that are played differently. Some brass instruments may be confused with woodwind instruments because they are both blown into. However, brass instruments do not rely on reeds to produce sound. Although woodwind instruments are made from metal or wood, all brass instruments are made from brass or other metal alloys.
Brass instruments are mainly made of brass because it is malleable so it can easily be shaped into a complex instrument. Also, brass doesn’t rust meaning that these instruments last long. As a bonus, brass is a pretty material.
