Instruments
Percussion instruments produce sound when hit or scraped with an object. Percussion refers to when two bodies collide. Percussion instruments are sometimes called the “heartbeat” of a song because they are used to create a beat or rhythm for other instruments to follow.
Some percussion instruments are only able to play one pitch or sound. These are known as untuned percussion instruments. Instead of being represented on a staff with a treble or bass clef like most music, sound produced from untuned percussion instruments can be notated with a neutral or percussion clef. This indicates to the player that the instrument does not have a definite pitch. Untuned percussion instruments only rely on rhythmic notation.
