Movies have always an amazing form of entertainment. Ever since the creation of movies in the late 1800s, they have skyrocketed in popularity over the past century. By the 30s, movies were incedibly popular with people such as Charlie Chaplin bringing more attention to movies, by portraying compelling movies. As the years of cinema went on, more and more movies would be created and there were movies that were vastly different from one another. Some were hilarious and others were adventurous. Like books and music, these became their own genres.

Many movies shine above the rest in their respected genres, the kings of their kind, movies so good, so influencial or so creative with their art that they're considered masterpieces by critics along the glode. This Website will focus on the four of the greatest movies ever made in some of the most popular genres in film. This website will mainly cover the most popular genres, not subgenres. The genres in this websites are: action, comedy, drama, horror, science fiction(sci-fi) and thriller, these can be accessed in the bar above.

This website will cover movies which have been revolutionary for their genres, are very highly regarded by critics, inventive, award winning performrnces, camerawork, writing and directing, as well as some that are personal favourites of mine, as the author. This list is subjected and is not to be taken seriously.

The history of film

The age of cinema had begun in the late 19th century. Films were made using a combination of pictures, which were called frames, where they would be played one after another at a quick speed for the time to seemingly create a moving image. For the first few decades of film, the films themselves were rather short, always silent and would usually only run for a few minutes. By the invention of colour in films from tinting in 1909, and the invention of sound cinema in 1927. WW1 had a large influence on the American view on movies, companies like Warner Bros were formed and America had become the staple for film. The golden age of cinema is generally considered to be the late 1920s and 1930s, with movies such as: Metropolis(1927), The Passion of the Joan of Ark(1928), King Kong(1933), Snow White(1937) and The Wizard of Oz(1939).
